Wolves win game against Rock Springs Tigers and lose to Trojans

The further into the season they've gone, the tougher the Wolves have been on the court. Last weekend the Green River High School Boys Basketball team continued to take on strong opponents in intense and close games. 

Last Thursday, Green River headed to Rock Springs for the annual Make-A-Wish game. 

"Rivalry games are always exciting for the players, coaches, and the community," Head Coach Laurie Ivie said. 

The Wolves and Tigers faced off, with Green River struggling a little in the beginning. 

"We had a really slow start to the game," Coach Ivie explained. 

After a tough first half, however, the Wolves pulled together to make a comeback. 

"The team executed well on both ends of the floor, made the necessary adjustments in the second half on the defensive end, and hit some big free throws down the stretch," Ivie said, which led to the team having "a great second half" of the game. 

The adjustments and hard work paid off, as the Wolves pulled ahead to beat the Tigers by eight points, ending the game with a final score of 69-61. 

As he has for many games this season, Theran Archibald led the team in scoring, getting 21 points against Rock Springs. Archibald also had eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Hunter Lake contributed 15 points as well as five rebounds and four steals. Chris Wilson scored 11 points, A.J. Keeling scored 10, Adrian Ruiz scored seven and Daxton Taylor scored five. Ruiz also had six rebounds and Keelin had four. 

After their victory, the Wolves traveled to Casper to take on Kelly Walsh on Saturday. 

This time, the Wolves started out the game strong. 

"We had an outstanding first half of basketball, and went into the locker room up nine at the half," Coach Ivie explained. "Unfortunately, we came out extremely flat after halftime," she continued. "We dug ourselves into a hole in the third quarter, and had to work to dig our way out the rest of the way." 

Despite their efforts to come back, the Wolves couldn't quite catch up to Kelly Walsh, who ended up taking the victory by 12 points, with a final score of 64-56. 

Archibald once again led the team, scoring 23 points and getting five rebounds and seven assists. Wilson made 15 points and three rebounds, and Ruiz made 11 points and four rebounds. Lake had the most steals with four, and Keelin had the most rebounds with seven.

The Wolves have two home games this week, facing off against Riverton on Friday and Cody on Saturday.
