While the Green River High School Boys Basketball team fought hard against tough opponents, they came up short in their first two conference games of the season.
On Thursday the Wolves took on Evanston, currently ranked second in the 4A Southwest Quadrant. Green River struggled on their home court and ended up losing their first conference game 75-51.
"Our performance against Evanston on Thursday night was pretty disappointing," Head Coach Laurie Ivie admitted. "We got into foul trouble early in the game, we got outworked on both ends of the court, and our defensive effort was horrendous."
Despite the loss, Theran Archibald put in a particularly valiant effort, leading the team with 26 points, right around half of the total score. Chris Wilson contributed eight points, A.J. Keelin scored seven, and Hunter Lake had six. Daxton Taylor led the team in rebounds with four.
On Saturday, the Wolves took on the Jackson Broncs, and this time they held their own. Green River lost by just four points, with a final score of 62-58.
"We took some huge steps in the right direction Saturday against Jackson," Coach Ivie said. "We focused hard on the defensive end of the court and got after it for four full quarters."
Once again, Archibald led the team.
"Theran Archibald had a huge game for us with 30 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists," Ivie pointed out.
Wilson and Lake also helped the Wolves, with 12 points and five rebounds from Wilson and 11 points, three rebounds, and six assists from Lake.
This Saturday, the Wolves will travel to take on Star Valley.
