Wolves basketball starts season with a win at tournament in Casper

The Green River High School Boys Basketball team kicked off their season last weekend when they headed to Casper for the Oil City Tip Off Tournament.

The team got off to a good start on Friday night when they faced Cheyenne South and won 63-53.

Theran Archibald led the team against Cheyenne South, scoring almost half of the Wolves’ baskets and finishing with 30 points, along with 11 rebounds. Chris Wilson was another strong player, contributing 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Hunter Lake also helped out with nine points, six assists and three steals. Adrian Ruiz had seven rebounds, Daxton Taylor had three rebounds and two steals, and A.J. Keelin had six rebounds.

On Saturday the Wolves faced off with Natrona County and Laramie. While the games stayed relatively close, the Wolves walked away with two losses. Natrona County won by 15 points with a final score of 56-41, and Laramie won by 10 points with a final score of 63-53.

Archibald once again led the Wolves in scoring during Saturday’s games, contributing 16 points against Natrona County and 24 points against Laramie. Wilson and Lake scored 10 points each against Natrona. Wilson scored another 10 points against Laramie, with Lake scoring 15 points. Ruiz led the team for rebounds against Natrona with eight rebounds throughout the game. Facing Laramie, the Wolves had a significant number of rebounds, with 14 from Archibald, six each from Ruiz and Keelin, four each from Lake and Taylor, and three from Wilson.

“We have placed a major emphasis on rebounding this season,” Head Coach Laurie Ivie said. “We out-rebounded the Bison 41-22, and the Laramie Plainsmen 37-28. That is significant to our team, and will remain a focus for us as we head into the weekend at the Flaming Gorge Classic.”

The Wolves will tip off against Rawlins at 7:40 p.m. tonight for the start of the Flaming Gorge Classic Tournament. They will also face Mountain View at 6 p.m. on Friday and Lyman at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.
