Lady Wolves end season at 4A West Regional Tournament

The Lady Wolves Volleyball team hosted the 4A West Regional Tournament in Green River on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Wolves played their first game against the Kelly Walsh Trojans on Friday. They played very tough offensively and defensively during the entire match. The team hit the court and took the lead early in the game. Eva Murray and Addison Demaret had several amazing kills that helped the Lady Wolves gain points, and powerful blocks from Taycie Fox and Sophia Arnold helped keep points away from Kelly Walsh. Abigail Fuss and Rylee Rosas had several great digs that kept the ladies moving forward in the game. Mid-set the score was tied at 14-14 and both teams were fighting hard for the win. The points kept going back and forth between the two teams until the last couple minutes when Kelly Walsh got a few points ahead and Green River missed some important plays. Green River lost the set 23-25.

The second set kept everyone on the edge of their seats as both teams stayed neck-and-neck most of the game. Green River had several great kills from Rosas, Demaret, Murray, and Sydnie Eastman during the game. Fuss and Haidyn Terry had some great serves and digs, along with solid serves from Mckinley Killpack. Fox and Arnold had impressive blocks at the net, but Kelly Walsh kept finding the open areas in the court and made some tough defensive plays, eventually taking the lead. Green River ended up losing the set 22-25.

During the beginning of the third set, it was another battle for the win. The scoreboard stayed close and the game was tied several times. Green River was playing strong defensively but lost their momentum, and unfortunately Kelly Walsh's strong offense was finding open spots in the court to strike the ball down and get ahead. Green River ended the game with another loss, 16-25.

"We played really well coming out against Kelly Walsh the first two sets," said Head Coach Jessica Demaret. "The girls never gave up and competed and stuck right with a very good volleyball team."

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves played their second match against the Rock Springs Tigers. This was a very important match for Green River to stay in the tournament and they needed to win. After an intense battle, Green River lost the first set 22-25. In the second set, Green River played strong and was victorious with a final score of 25-23. In the third and fourth set, Green River had heartbreaking losses to Rock Springs with a final score of 16-25 for both sets. With the loss, the Lady Wolves were eliminated from the tournament.

Coach Demaret says ending the season is always disappointing when it is earlier than you want it to be, but this team has done so many good things over the course of the season. The coaches have asked them to do several new things they have never done before and all season long they have rolled with it and continued to improve over the course of the year. We all know that the girls will be in the gym here in a few months ready to get back to work and improve their game even more.

After the completion of the tournament, the four teams that will now compete in the 4A State Tournament are the Cody Fillies seeded first, the Kelly Walsh Trojans second, the Star Valley Braves third and the Riverton Wolverines fourth.
