Lady Wolves victorious over Tigers, fall to Braves

The Green River Lady Wolves Volleyball team played the Rock Springs Lady Tigers on Tuesday, October 17. The match was the "Dig Pink" game and the stands and court were filled with beautiful pink colors honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Green River played strong the first set, but came up short at the end, losing 22-25. The Lady Wolves came back with determination and won the second set 25-23, then faced the Lady Tigers with even more confidence in the third set and won again, finishing 25-21. The fourth set was an intense game with both teams battling. Green River unfortunately didn't get the upper hand and lost the set 19-25. In the final set, Green River took control and was victorious over Rock Springs again, winning the game with a final score of 15-7.

"Playing Rock Springs is always fun, in an awesome atmosphere and a great match with it being our rivalry," said Head Coach Jessica Demaret.

Coach Demaret said it was a great overall team effort that led to getting the win. She thinks the girls' nerves and excitement got to them the first couple of games, but they never gave up and fought back after getting down early, and she is very proud of them. They took control of the fifth set from the start and were determined to get the job done and come away with the win.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves played a conference game against the Star Valley Braves. Green River played very strong, both offensively and defensively, during the first two sets. In two close games, they fell to Star Valley 25-22 and 25-21. In the third set, Green River couldn't catch up to the lead Star Valley had and they lost 17-25.

"We competed and played right with Star Valley the first two games of the match, and did some really good things," explained Coach Demaret. "We were hoping to get one of those first close sets, which we knew would have taken some momentum away from the Braves, and were unable to finish unfortunately, but competed well against a very good team."

Going into Regionals, Coach Demaret feels the girls have gained some confidence over the last few weeks.

"We know that this is a new season with a fresh start where everyone is 0-0," she said.

Demaret says their goal is set to make it to State and that they feel like they can compete and win a few games this weekend to accomplish that. The team is very excited about being here in Green River on their home court. They look forward to playing in front of their GRHS fans and community that have been such great supporters of their volleyball team all season.

The 4A West Regional Volleyball Tournament will start on Friday and will continue through Saturday. The Lady Wolves' first game will take place on Friday at 11:30 a.m. against the Kelly Walsh Trojans. If they win the game, they will play again at 4 p.m., and if they lose, they will play on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
