Swimming and Diving team takes first, honors seniors

The Green River Boys Swimming and Diving team hosted the Last Chance meet last Thursday and wrapped up their regular season. They also honored the six seniors that jumped into the pool for the last time for the Green River High School team. The seniors that were honored included Braxton Cordova, Kyle Kight, River Kirts, Brady Young, Zeke Reading and Ryan Fischer.

The Wolves came out on top, beating Evanston, Rock Springs and Lyman. They didn't pick up any new qualifiers to compete at state, but they did have swimmers that qualified for more events. Vance Lauriski-Adams qualified in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Backstroke events. Logan Wadsworth picked up the 500 Yard Freestyle, Ashton Hafner picked up the 100 Freestyle, and Colin Gilmore picked up the 100 Yard Butterfly.

Green River started off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, ahead of both of Rock Springs' relay teams.

Aiden Zimmerman's strong swimming skills earned him a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle event, 3.86 seconds ahead of Evanston's Jaxson Daniels. Dallan Owens had an impressive third-place finish in the 200 Yard IM. Standout Brady Young took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle, with Ryan Fischer only 0.79 seconds behind him.

The amazing diving team snagged all top three places in the One-Meter Diving event, with Braxton Cordova placing first, Kyle Kight in second and Keegan Gailey in third.

Zeke Reading dominated the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing 0.35 seconds ahead of Lyman's Jaxon Lallatin.

Ashton Hafner also took first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle, beating Evanston's Kyler Hogman by 1.14 seconds. Another great race was won by Brady Young in the 100 Yard Backstroke, beating Rock Springs's Gunner Seiloff (yes, that's Head Coach Colleen Seiloff's grandson) by 1.44 seconds.

"I always enjoy when we compete against Rock Springs so I can see my grandson swim too," said Coach Seiloff.

It was a very intense race as Green River's Ryan Fischer and Zeke Reading were neck-and-neck in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with Fischer beating Reading by a touch of a finger - 0.09 seconds.

Seiloff would like her team to know that she is very proud of all of their dedication this season. "I'm very excited to watch them celebrate all their hard work at state," added Seiloff.

Green River left Wednesday to travel to Gillette because of stormy weather that is supposed to hit our state again. They will be competing in Gillette at the 3A State Championships today and tomorrow.
