School district prepares for projects at high school, middle school

Sweetwater County School District No. 2 is preparing for a series of upcoming projects involving its schools throughout Green River.

The district’s board of trustees approved several request for proposals, as well as an agreement for professional services on work to remodel the central kitchen at Lincoln Middle School.

The RFPs includes work on the boiler burners at Green River High School not to exceed $142,000, interior security doors at Lincoln Middle School not to exceed $100,000, and work on security bollards throughout the district not to exceed $60,000. Doug Hamel, the district’s maintenance supervisor, said the boiler work at the high school isn’t limited to the physical work and includes updating the software used to operate them.

“We’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that we’ve had this building (GRHS), it’s hard to believe, for 24 years,” Chairman Steve Core said.

For the LMS security doors, Core said the project is based off of recommendations received by the Green River Police Department and Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. He said the doors would allow portions of the school to be isolated in an emergency.

“Lincoln doesn’t have any doors inside to break up the building,” Hamel said.

For the security bollards project, Hamel explained that security bollards are the cement pipes used to prevent vehicles from driving into school buildings. Hamel said all the requests came from the district’s facilities committee.

The school board also approved agreements to start pre-construction services for the LMS kitchen remodel with Groathouse Construction not to exceed $7,500 and professional services with Plan One Architects not to exceed $269,420.
