College trustee resigns following election win

An opening on the Western Wyoming Community College Board of Trustees occurred last month after a board member who won her re-election bid in November resigned.

Dr. Veronica Donaldson submitted her resignation from the board of trustees during the group’s January meeting. Donaldson was a board member representing Sweetwater County School District No. 1.

Western’s website identifies Dr. Donaldson as the board president, and she won re-election to her position in November, earning 4,194 votes to receive the second-highest number of votes in a race with four contenders. Election spending records show Dr. Donaldson did not spend anything on her re-election campaign.

Dr. Donaldson was originally appointed in 2019 to fill an unexpired term. Her departure creates an open board position that will not expire until 2026. This gives the college board the opportunity to hand-pick Dr. Donaldson’s successor for a nearly complete four-year term.

Western stopped accepting letters of interest by prospective board members Feb. 1.
