Green River Police Department reports for Jan. 22

At 9:29 p.m., officers were in the area of Cumorah Way, attempting to serve a summons, when officers detected a strong odor of burnt or burning marijuana coming from somewhere inside the apartment complex. Officers located an individual who stated they had been smoking marijuana and would surrender the marijuana to officers. Officers confiscated approximately 20.74 grams of suspected marijuana, gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

Jan. 23

At 1:28 a.m., officers, along with GRFD, responded to a report of a structure fire. GRFD was able to extinguish the fire. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident. 

At 12:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to Bridger Drive for an attempted fraud case. Officers met with an individual who reported their Verizon account was hacked and they noticed someone had purchased 4 iPhones on their account. Verizon Wireless is investigating the attempted fraud. No monetary losses were reported. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

At 1:28 p.m., officers responded to N Center Street in reference to a report of vandalism. The homeowner reported that someone had turned on their outside faucet and left it running. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

At 1:38 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision. It was reported both vehicles were in the drive-up pharmacy lane, the first vehicle in front of the second, when the first vehicle attempted to back out of the lane and struck the front of the second vehicle. Officers met with both drivers, gathered information, and completed a report of the incident.

At 3:39 p.m., officers responded to the alley behind the Embassy Bar concerning a physical fight. Officers met with the parties involved, gathered information, and completed a report of the incident.

At 9:36 p.m., officers observed a vehicle driving with its hazard lights blinking as it was traveling southbound on the overpass just north of Uinta at E 2 S. Officers observed that the right front tire of the vehicle appeared to be flat and was wobbling back and forth.  Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and met with the driver. Officers detected the odor of an alcoholic-based beverage, gathered information, and subsequently placed the driver Jordan Evans, of Green River, under arrest. Officers located several open alcoholic containers and suspected marijuana. Officers issued citations for alleged open container, DWUI, metal tire prohibited, and possession of CDS-plant form, then transported Evans to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

Jan. 24

At 8:17 a.m., officers responded to a report of an individual who was not conscious and not breathing. Officers began life saving measures until EMS personnel arrived and continued patient care. The individual was pronounced deceased and officers notified the Coroner. Officers gathered information, completed a report of the incident, and forwarded the case to GRPD detectives. 

At 2:38 p.m., officers responded to WyHy Federal Credit Union (110 Commerce Drive) in reference to a report of fraud. An employee became suspicious of a transaction one of their customers was attempting to make, and was able to determine the customer was being defrauded. Officers met with an individual who reported they had some people work on their computer, and now their computer was completely blocked. The people contacted them demanding they purchase $3,500 on Visa Gift cards and send them photographs of the gift cards. After they did this, they were contacted by the people again, and were advised the visa gift cards didn’t work, and that they needed to go to their bank and transfer money to a bank account. Officers gathered information and and completed a report of the incident. Monetary losses were reported.

At 3:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Green River Police Department (375 W. Flaming Gorge Way) in reference to a possible stolen vehicle. Officers met with the owner of a van who wanted to report it as stolen, due to the person they had lent the van to failing to return the van or to complete the purchase of the van. Officers gathered information, attempted to make contact with the individual, and completed a report of the incident.  

At 8:54 p.m., officers responded to a report of a prior physical domestic and a weapons offense. Officers met with an individual who reported prior incidents of domestic violence, gathered information, and completed a report of the incident.

At 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of domestic violence. Officers met with the individuals involved in a physical altercation. EMS was called to evaluate the victim and the individual was transported. Subsequently officers placed Robert Mandros, 23, of Green River, under arrest for alleged aggravated assault and battery - causes or attempts to cause serious bodily injury and criminal entry and issued a citation for alleged paraphernalia. Officers transported Mandros to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

Jan. 25

At 11:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of fraud. Officers met with an individual who reported they had given out some financial information through a solicited phone call. No monetary losses were reported and officers advised the individual to also report the incident to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov).

At 12:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to the report of someone at an unknown residence in the area of N 2nd East Street that was not being allowed to leave. Officers contacted the reporting party who advised that they wanted to get back into their residence but the doors were locked by the occupant inside. Officers learned that an anonymous male subject had called dispatch stating there was an intoxicated person at their residence that wouldn’t leave. Officers attempted to make contact with the male subject and gathered information. The reporting party advised they would leave the residence and officers completed a report of the incident.

At 12:28 p.m., officers responded to the east end of Green River concerning a possible drunk driver (REDDI) report. Officers observed a vehicle matching the description traveling west from the direction of Interstate 80 into Green River, and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for no visible registration. Officers met with the driver and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Officers subsequently placed Gary Welfl, of Green River, under arrest and issued a citation for alleged DWUI- alcohol .08 or greater. Officers transported Welfl to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

At 12:58 p.m., officers responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle that hit the reporting party’s garage. Officers issued a citation to a juvenile, age 16, of Green River, for alleged inattentive driving with a crash. Report to follow.

At 2:42 p.m., officers responded to a report of an individual who was not conscious and not breathing. Officers began life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived. EMS took over life saving measures and the individual was transported by ambulance. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.
