Boys basketball team never gave up their fight

The Green River Wolves Boys Basketball team traveled to Casper on Thursday for their first tournament of the season. Tournaments are especially good for the teams to get a feel for playing with new players and just getting to know one another on the court. The boys played really hard and never gave up on the games. Unfortunately, they went 3-0 with losses to Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, and Natrona County.

For the first game against Cheyenne Central on Thursday, December 8, the final score was 80-68, with Cheyenne Central winning. The Wolves kept the score close but couldn't take the lead to take down Central.

On Friday, December 9, the Wolves played against Natrona County. Their final score was 62-45, with Natrona winning. It was another fight to the end for the Wolves, but they came up short on baskets.

Lastly, on Saturday, December 10, the boys played against Cheyenne East, and their final score was a 79-46 Cheyenne East victory. Cheyenne was tearing up the court and swept the floor to end the tournament with another win.

"Chris Wilson had two huge games for us this weekend," explained Head Coach Laurie Ivey. Chris Wilson was the Wolves' leading scorer in the Cheyenne Central game with 26 points. He was also their lead scorer and rebounder in the Cheyenne East game with 32 points and six rebounds.

Even though the tournament didn't go as expected, the boys still kept their heads held high.

"We are going to continue to focus on the things we know are important for us in order to win games - rebounding and defense," explained Ivey.

This weekend the Wolves will be participating in one of the biggest tournaments of the season, the Flaming Gorge Classic. It will be hosted here in Green River at multiple locations.
