Volleyball heads to regionals after loss to Star Valley

The Lady Wolves took on the Lady Braves last Friday. Green River also celebrated the seniors Brinley Nelson, Oaklee Hanks, and Mia Rosas that night.

To start off the game, the girls played a little timid at first but gradually got better throughout the matches. Their passing was still one of their strongest skills, and also having support from the Junior Varsity on the bench cheering them on made the game a lot more enjoyable to watch and play.

"We had several JV players step into varsity roles and not only get great experience for us, but contributed off of the bench," Coach Demaret explained.

The next match had a great turn around with better intensity. The girls still made some minor mistakes here and there but they didn't fall too far behind. Haidyn Terry had great hustle and never gave up on the play. She is definitely a teammate that everyone can depend on to put her all into it.

In the last match of the Star Valley game, Green River really gained their composure and came back with a tough fight. The girls barely let anything hit the floor and came through with some great plays. Oaklee Hanks had an amazing block which tied up the game 22-22. This forced the Star Valley coach to call a time out. The last few plays were very intense and so fun to watch. The girls really finished putting their all into it.

"Some things the girls need to work on going into regionals is being aggressive at the net, both defensively and offensively," Demaret said. She added: "Our blocking and sending balls over the net that aren't free balls are a big point of emphasis this week in practice."

Their plan for Regionals is to keep in mind that this week started a new season, and at this point everyone is 0-0.

"We are focused on winning two games and extending our season one more week," Demaret said.

The GRHS Volleyball would like to thank all of the family, friends, students at GRHS, as well as the great community for their support of the program this season. It's been exciting for all of the girls to see people in the gym and enjoying watching Green River Volleyball.

The Lady Wolves will travel to Riverton to begin Regional games on Friday. If they win their game then they will play again on Saturday.

These tournaments are used to qualify and seed teams for next weekend's state tournament in Casper. Two wins will qualify your team for the state tournament. Two losses will mean your season is over.
