GRHS swimmers are 3A West Conference Champions

The Lady Wolves have shown so much devotion and dedication for swimming and diving. They arrived at the conference meet in Rawlins and proved to their competitors how much they wanted to win. The ladies' stellar performances and teamwork guaranteed their success. They won nine out of 12 events and walked away with an abundance of awards. There was so much excitement in the air as the Lady Wolves were named 3A Conference Champions.

Green River's Tavia Arnell received the 3A West Swimmer of the Year award. She also took home two All Conference awards for first place finishes in the 200 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Butterfly. Arnell set a new pool record in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:15.52.

Tanith Smith was awarded the 3A West Swimmer of the Meet award and also won first place in the 50 Yard and 100 Yard Freestyle events. She set a new pool record in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 54.78.

Courtney Clark was another double-event winner, taking home first place finishes in the 200 Yard and 500 Yard Freestyle. She also broke a pool record in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:36.70.

Brianna Uhrig won her individual All Conference award in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

Madison Moffat finished in the top three in the 100 Yard Butterfly event, snagging her All Conference award.

Zella Maez and Kaili Wadsworth also won All Conference awards in the 1 Meter diving event.

Two of the three "A" relay teams brought home the gold for Green River. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Tanith Smith, Brianna Uhrig, Tavia Arnell and Ivory Neher battled through the event and their hard work paid off with a first place All Conference Award. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Arnell, Courtney Clark, Haley Clevenger and Smith had another amazing race, winning the event and receiving an All Conference Award. The relay teams not only won but also set pool records in both events. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Courtney Clark, Ivory Neher, Hailey Luth and Clevenger took second place and also received an All Conference Award.

Coach Seiloff thinks that conference went very well. She is very pleased with all the girls that were able to place in the top six and the top 12.

"These girls have been working so hard and it was so fun to watch them," Seiloff said. "They're very competitive and they don't like losing so even if they're exhausted they're going to push and they did a good job of doing that."

Chezni Rubeck qualified in another event for state, the 50 Yard Freestyle, and Seiloff was very excited about that. She was hoping to pick up a couple more qualifiers but that didn't happen. She is keeping her fingers crossed that this Thursday she'll get them during the Last Chance meet.

"It will be nice to swim at home in front of the parents and in our own pool and we can cheer them on," Seiloff added.

For all of the swimmers that are close to qualifying, today will be their last opportunity to make cuts in their times so they can compete at the 3A State Championships next week. The Last Chance meet will take place at the Aquatic Center in Green River at 4 p.m.

"I was pretty excited but also surprised. It felt good to be recognized for all of the hard work I have put in. It was a good feeling!"
