Richard "Rich" Matthews Jr., 78, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was a longtime resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming and former resident of Vallejo, California.

He was born February 26, 1943 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the son of Richard Matthews Sr. and Earlene M. Meeks.

Mr. Matthews attended schools in Rock Springs, Wyoming and was a 1962 graduate of Rock Springs High School. He attended the University of Wyoming.

He married the love of his life, Margee Sarcletti, on July 28,1962 in Pinedale, Wyoming.

Mr. Matthews worked for Western Wyoming Community College for thirty-three years until his retirement in 2010 at which time he was Director of Physical Resources. He also worked for Union Oil Company of California and Yellowstone Wholesale Company earlier in his career.

He was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship.

He was a member of the Rock Springs Men's Senior Golfing Association and the Tyrolean Trentini of Wyoming.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating and fishing, bocci ball and photography. Rich loved helping people with their home projects and anyone who needed a helping hand. His golden Labrador, Chip, was his shadow.

Survivors include his wife, Margee Matthews of Rock Springs, Wyoming; two daughters, Gina Pacheco and husband, Dwane of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Julie Zilka and husband, Will of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister, Diane Harper and husband, Cavin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren, Ellie Pacheco, Ashley York and husband Jamison; Lindsey Aragon and husband, Jay; Zach Zilka and wife, Jesse; Daniel Pacheco and wife, Mariah; Chris Pacheco. Six great-grandchildren: Jace Siler; Landon Siler; Amaya York; Charlee Pacheco; Kendall Pacheco and Christopher Pacheco Jr. as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Todd Matthews as well as his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Cremation has taken place; a Celebration of Life will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Friday, July 22, 2022 at Victory Christian Fellowship, 591 Broadway Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming.
