George Nomis

George Nomis, 83, passed away Monday, July 11 at his home in Green River. He is a life-long resident of Green River.  Mr. Nomis died following a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born on December 29, 1939 in Rock Springs, the son of Pete Nomis and Galatia Vadkodis.

Mr. Nomis attended schools in Green River. He was a 1957 graduate of Green River High School.

He married Marlene Mann April 26, 1963 in Green River. She preceded him in death September 9, 2014.

Mr. Nomis worked for the Green River Fire Department for 44 years. He was the Assistant Fire Chief for nine years. Mr. Nomis was the owner and operator of the Red Feather Bar for over fifty years. One of his proudest moments was the Fire Training Tower coming to reality; it was named after him. 

He is a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Mr. Nomis enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, golfing, and companion Benji his four-legged furry animal. His greatest asset was his family and his work serving people. They both meant the world to him.

Survivors include his two sons, Mike Nomis of Casper and Keith Nomis and wife Tonya of Castle Rock, Colorado; two daughters, Chris Nomis Ortega of Green River and Annette McCullough and husband Bruce of Douglas; one brother Tom Nomis and wife Sue of Green River; eight grandchildren, Mitch Roberts and wife Tylene, Brandi Anderson and husband Tyrell, Brittani Richmond, Stevie Nomis, Sierra Nomis, Brooklyn Nomis, Aliyah Nomis and Tatum Barela; and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services were conducted at 12 p.m. on Monday, July 18 at Vase Funeral Home, 154 Elk Street in Rock Springs. Graveside services and internment were in Riverview Cemetery.
