The Wolves’ basketball season ended in a disappointing fashion last week after the boys lost both their regional tournament games.
Seeded second in the tournament, the boys took on the seven-seeded Rock Springs Tigers in Riverton March 3. The Wolves had defeated the Tigers twice during the regular season, defeating them Feb. 3 in a 51-45 game and Feb. 2 58-46. The Tigers took the third meeting between the two teams, defeating the Wolves 50-45. The Tigers would end up taking third at the tournament, earning the third seed for the 4A West in the state basketball tournament this week.
The Wolves took on the Natrona County Mustangs March 4 in a game that ended 48-42 and killed the Wolves’ dreams of a state tournament berth. The Mustangs would battle their way through the consolation bracket, taking on the Tigers in the game dictating the tournament’s third and fourth place finishers. The Tigers defeated the Mustangs 51-47 March 5, with Natrona earning the fourth seed for the 4A West. The Wolves’ season ends 14-8 overall and a 9-2 for the conference.
The team will lose five players to graduation: Dillon LaRose, Cole Murray, Jax Peterson, Austin Fox and Dylan Taylor.
Taylor in particular had an outstanding season with the Wolves, surpassing more than 1,000 points scored throughout his years playing for Green River and scoring 42 points in a single game against Evanston Feb. 17.
