The Sweetwater County Library System received two Wyoming Humanities grants that will assist in operating the Community Fine Arts Center in Rock Springs and children’s programming at the Rock Springs Library on C Street.
Wyoming Humanities awarded more than half a million in grants to organizations throughout Wyoming since fall 2021, with $408,940 awarded in the most recent award cycle. In Sweetwater County, the library system was the only recipient of Wyoming Humanities grants in the latest cycle.
Of the initial $15,000, Library Director Lindsey Travis said $10,000 would be going to the CFAC to reopen the center on Mondays.
The grant will pay for 10 hours of employee time a week.
Budget cuts the system endured during the last year initially caused the CFAC to close its doors on Mondays, but the grant allowed the center to reopen Jan. 10.
The other $5,000 is being used to pay for children’s programming at the Rock Springs Library throughout the year. Budget cuts from the Rock Springs City Council last year resulted in the system needing to find replacement funds for the programing the branch offered.
“Both of these grants have been very important in proving services for patrons,” Travis wrote in an email to the Star. “One of them allows to reopen a building for another day per week, and the other helps fund youth programming, which is one of our most important and popular services.”
