Western hosts state spelling bee March 19

Sweetwater BOCES is excited to announce it will host the annual Wyoming State Spelling Bee on March 19, located on the Western Wyoming Community College campus. This event has been held virtually the last two years due to COVID19.

Each year, 70-80 students from across the state participate in the competition. To be eligible to compete, the speller must not have reached their 15th birthday on or before August 31, 2021 and the speller must not have passed beyond the eighth grade on or before August 31, 2021.

Additionally, the speller must attend a school or home school that is officially enrolled with Scripps National Spelling Bee. Go to http://www.spellingbee.com to register. SBOCES encourages all qualified spellers to participate in their local Spelling Bees and to participate in the fun and beneficial State competition as a local winner.

Students who place in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place earn cash prizes and the 1st place contestant has the opportunity to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

"Sweetwater BOCES is proud to continue the Wyoming State Spelling Bee. This is an exciting opportunity for our young spellers throughout the state to come back together to test their abilities and make some friends along the way," Bernadine Craft, SBOCES director, said.

We encourage students, schools, home-schooled families or educators interested in learning more about or participating in the 2022 Wyoming State Spelling Bee on March 19, 2022 to contact tpiaia@westernwyoming.edu or call 307-382-1607.
