Boys basketball earns 2 wins

The Green River High School boys basketball team came out victorious in two close basketball games with Evanston and Jackson.

The boys defeated Evanston at home Thursday 51-49 in overtime last Thursday, then defeated Jackson 51-48 Saturday at Jackson Hole High School.

The two games were the first conference quad games for the Wolves, giving them an early 2-0 conference record. Overall, the boys are 7-4 for the year.

While the boys enjoyed success last week, head coach Laurie Ivie said she continues having the boys focus on consistency because they’ve yet to play a solid four quarters of basketball this year.

“But with that being said, the maturity they’ve shown to close out extremely close games has been impressive,” Ivie said. “Time and time again, they have been poised under pressure, and that has made all the difference in winning games down the stretch.”

Ivie said Dylan Taylor had two huge games, earning a double-double in the overtime game with Evanston by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor also score the game-winning three-point shot in Jackson with 3.5 seconds remaining in the game.

“He finished as our leading scorer with 16 points, our leading rebounder with nine rebounds, and he also led our team with five assists,” she said.

Ivie said the team overall has succeeded in functioning like a solid unit and the players have stepped up in their various roles.

“We need every single player that steps out on the court to fill their role, and each role is equally important,” Ivie said.

The boys will face the Star Valley Braves Saturday night in Star Valley. Ivie expects the team to use a lot of zone in their defense, while having a roster of “phenomenal shooters.”

“They are an extremely well coached team, and I anticipate both teams will battle from tipoff to the final buzzer,” she said.
