Pony Express group plans Christmas card ride

The Sweetwater County Pony Express rides again every year during the holiday season to deliver Christmas cards.

This year, which is the 20th year the event has been held, the Christmas card ride will take place Saturday, Dec. 11.

Cards will be stamped with a special Pony Express stamp and placed into a mochila — a special bag used by Pony Express riders, named for the Spanish word meaning “bag,” which is typically made of leather and designed to fit over a saddle. The cards will then be carried on horseback from the Green River Post Office to the Rock Springs Post Office.

Anyone can send cards on the Pony Express ride, and the cards can be mailed to anywhere, but they must be ready to mail and have the correct postage. Cards can be accepted at the Green River Post Office until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.

The Pony Express Christmas Card ride will leave the Green River Post Office at 11 a.m. Dec. 11.
