Letter: Don't trust the 'government-approved narrative'

September 30, 2021

Dear Editor,

In support of your readers of a more independent mindset, those who harbor a healthy skepticism of government-backed science, I would like to direct your attention to one of many scientifically honest articles refuting the government-approved narrative concerning face masks. (Found at: https://www.justfacts.com/news_face_masks_deadly_falsehoods)

Traditionally, the scientific method consists of five steps: Observation, Hypothesis, Experiment, Conclusion, and Communication of Theory.  Unfortunately, with the involvement of politicians, science becomes adulterated by ideologically inspired policies and social engineering projects.  The scientific method is turned on its ear: Extract Theory from ideology, Organize your community, Formulate points of persuasion, then Publicize with extreme prejudice.  Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like propaganda.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. -Benjamin Franklin

One would assume that because face masks have been used in operating rooms for well over a century, the science is settled. Yet, in a string of studies, from 1935 to the present, the results remain consistent: “effectiveness remains unresolved.”  So, with all the potential harms, from arrested childhood development to rebreathing your own exhaust for hours on end, show me some independent science in favor of masks and I’ll take it under advisement.

For now, I must side with Dr. Franklin, I’m not about to forfeit God-given liberty for a lemmings’ perception of safety.
