Following a winless weekend for both high school soccer teams, the Wolves and Lady Wolves are looking to make a rebound in the coming week. The teams will take on Star Valley Thursday and Jackson Hole Saturday in two away games.
For head girls coach Chris Nielsen said his main goal for the girls is to score a goal and build upon the momentum that would bring them. This weekend pits the against the teams both battled at the start of the season. Nielsen said he’s excited to see how the girls compare to their first games of the season. One area he knows the Lady Wolves have improved in is their conditioning. This week, he started having the girls run two miles during practice, one mile at the start and the other at the end of the session. He’s noticing girls dropping their times in the practice run and seeing girls able to avoid walking during the drill.
Overall, he and his staff are focusing on improvement and admits the team will be facing some setbacks this week as they will be without five of their players, who are traveling with the school’s cheerleading team.
For the boys, head coach Kahler Dawson, the boys’ possession improves, but they still have trouble making goals. However, he sees the team growing each week, something he values and believes will pay off later in the season.
“We’re getting better and that’s what matters,” he said.
