Grinch steals from Mission at Castle Rock

A week before Christmas, Mission at Castle Rock in Green River was burglarized, with gifts directed to the residents either damaged or stolen from the facility’s Angel Tree.

“It was really disheartening ... I don’t know who would have done that,” Kari Facinelli, Mission at Castle Rock’s marketing specialist said.

According to Det. Cpl. Karl Bode of the Green River Police Department, the theft occurred between the afternoon of Dec. 16 and the morning of Dec. 17. As of press time Bode said he wasn’t sure of how much was stolen and damaged in the theft.

While the burglary saddened the staff, Facinelli said the Green River community came together to help replace the gifts.

She said three hours after an initial social media post about the burglary, the facility had received enough money to replace the gifts. The outpouring of support reminded Facinelli of the end of Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” where the residents of Whoville came together and celebrated Christmas despite the Grinch looting their homes in an attempt to stop the holiday.

“The community has been amazing to us,” she said.
