School's Veterans Day activities canceled

The long-running Veteran’s Day program hosted by Lincoln Middle School will not happen this year.

Lori Hastert, the sixth-grade teacher at Lincoln Middle School, said the school decided not to host the event due to concerns with hosting a COVID-19 spreader event amongst students and veterans.

“The veterans mean the world to us, but they need their health,” Hastert said. “Right now, we just can’t do this.”

She said the cancelation extends to the signs placed along Uinta Drive because they weren’t able to adhere with social distancing and sanitation recommendations. Hastert said the decision wasn’t an easy one to make and the school had the supplies to make the signs before deciding to pull the plug on the events.

The school made an announcement Thursday regarding the decision.

“We know this is a much anticipated event for many of our local Veterans, so we are working to ensure that future Veteran’s Day programs are safe for everyone,” the announcement reads.
