A program providing meals to Green River’s children has been extended to June 30, 2021.
According to a release from Sweetwater County School District No. 2, the food service program was granted meal flexibility to allow students to receive meals under its Summer Food Program through the end of 2020. The program was originally set to end Dec. 31, 2020.
“We will have breakfast and lunch available for pick up at Lincoln Middle School Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., each day that school is in session,” Leah Kenison, director of nutrition services, said in the release.
Parents are being asked to park in the parking lot behind the school and walk into the kitchen doors. Younger children also do not need to be present to receive food.
The program will also provide weekend meals for all students, regardless of if they’re attend through virtual classrooms or in person, as well as to anyone aged two to 18. They will receive meals for both Saturday and Sunday. Parents and students seeking the weekend meals are asked to let nutrition services staff know they want the meals when they arrive.
The program was originally launched shortly after the coronavirus pandemic closed schools throughout the county. Previously, the program had only been offered during the summer break, but the need prompted the department to seek ways of providing meals to students before the summer break period started.
