The Green River Volunteer Fire Department had their work cut out for them after being dispatched to a deck fire and a trailer fire less than six hours apart.
Just after one a.m., firefighters were called out to the scene of a deck fire on New Mexico Street. Upon arriving, the department could see that a deck on the backside of the house was completely engulfed in flames.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Larry Erdmann, the homeowner was notified by the neighbor. After being notified the homeowner went outside and began dousing the fire with water from the garden hose.
Erdmann reported that the GRPD directed the fire truck to the back alley to allow for better access.
The personnel successfully extinguished the fire, however the deck was a total loss due to the amount of damage done.
Erdmann also said it is hard to determine the cause, though a planter holding a dead blueberry bush was determined as the origin.
Firefighters were on the scene for two hours with no injuries.
The estimated cost damage is $12,000.
Not too shortly after, at six-fifteen a.m., the department was deployed once again to a fire on Interstate 80, near mile marker 93 outside of Green River. When fire fighters arrived on scene they were met with a fully engulfed semi-trailer.
The driver of the vehicle, who was not named, was able to unhook his truck from the trailer.
The trailer was filled with ice-melting salt.
The driver of the vehicle said the fire started in the axle are and his extinguisher was not enough to put the fire out.
Erdmann said the fire personnel extinguished the fire and additional water was provided by the Green River Streets Department water truck. No injuries were reported and the trailer damage is estimated at $35,000.
