Cruise to end Alzheimer's set

The Alzheimer’s association is inviting Sweetwater County residents to join them for their annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s event on August 28. Rather then hosting a large gathering, the Alzheimer’s association is encouraging participants to drive the route instead.

There will be events held in both Green River and Rock Springs. Participants are encourage to decorate their cars in either purple, yellow, blue, or orange. Purple meaning the participant has lost someone to Alzheimer’s, yellow meaning they are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, blue meaning the participant is living with Alzheimer’s, and orange meaning the participant supports the vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.

The route in Rock Springs will begin at the Young at Heart Center and will continue to the Western Wyoming Community College. once reaching the college participants will turn around and circle back to the Young at Heart Center.

The route in Green River will begin at Evers park and continue over the train overpass then circle back around to Evers park.

The Alzheimer’s association is asking participants to pre-register on their website. Time-honored components of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s are being replicated. The day of the event and opening ceremony will take place. This ceremony features loud speakers as well as a presentation of promise flowers to honor the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s. Members of the Alzheimer’s association will create the iconic Promise Garden in a view only format.

“The pandemic is changing how we walk, but it doesn’t change the need to walk,” Wyoming Walk Manager, Eli Allen said in a press release. “This year, more than ever, we need to come together to support all those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia. With the dollars raised, the Alzheimer’s Association can continue to provide care and support to families during these difficult times, while also advancing critical research toward methods of treatment and prevention.”
