3 awarded memorial scholarship

Three Green River High School graduates recently received industrial arts scholarships named for Maicy Braden, a student who died in an automobile crash in 2016.

This year, the $500 memorial scholarships were awarded to Kaycee Olsen, Alaina Maiers and Elizabeth Froats.

Froats plans to attend the University of Wyoming, intending to pursue a career in either veterinary science or in healthcare.

Alaina Maiers will attend WYO Tech in Laramie to study collision repair and refinishing, seeking to eventually open a business specializing in street rods or custom fabrication.

Olsen will attend Western Wyoming Community College, working towards an associates degree in welding technology, with further ambitions to attend UW and study civil engineering.

Braden was a student talented in career and technical education classes, especially in the areas of welding, metal working, auto mechanics and collision refinishing. She was an honor student with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and dreamed of working in a design and development career. The scholarship was established both to honor Braden's memory and provide opportunities to girls planning to pursue a career in industrial arts, technical arts or engineering. The scholarship was made possible with donations from William and Rachelle Morris, Mandros Painting and several anonymous donors.
