Judge's furniture approved

New District Court Judge Suzannah Robinson will be getting new furniture for her office, courtesy of Sweetwater County.

The Sweetwater County commissioners approved a budget amendment for $17,896 from general county reserves to the capital facilities maintenance fund Tuesday, paying for the furniture.

The approval covers a new table and chairs for the jury room and courtroom counsel tables, as well as a new desk, two lateral files, two book shelves, chairs and a loveseat sofa for Robinson’s chambers.

According to commissioner documents, several problems exist with current furniture. In Robinson’s office, the current desk is listed as not being large enough for Robinson’s tasks. Her requested office chairs and couch would replace a leather couch and chairs originally placed when Judge Hamm was district court judge.

The current furniture in her office will be relocated to other offices.

The costs for the new furniture in Robinson’s office totals $9,297.67. As far as other furniture The jury room chairs are unstable and tip over.

In total, 15 chairs for 12 jurors and three alternates were ordered, which consists of nine chairs with arms and six without, for a total $3,530.31.

The courtroom counsel chairs have similar problems and eight chairs were ordered at a total of $1,966.64.

A third counsel table and a laminate jury room table were also ordered, totaling $2,170.85.

Freight for the order totals $930.45.

The issue was originally brought up during the commissioners’ March 17 meeting, where the purchase was initially approved.

The commissioners voted 4-1 in favor of the budget amendment Tuesday.

Commissioner Wally Johnson voted against the proposal.
