District hires superintendent

The Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees announced it hired a new superintendent last week.

The board announced it hired Craig Barringer, the current superintendant of the Libby, Mont. school district. Barringer signed a contract with the board and will start July 1.

He has been the superintendant of the district for the past nine years.

Steve Core, the board’s chairman, said the district is excited to “be moving forward with such a dynamic leader.”

“The Board is 100 percent behind current Superintendent Jamie Christensen’s abilities to lead the District to July 1 and are confident Superintendent Christensen will help in the transition to a new leader,” the press release states.

Barringer visited the district as part of a series of visits initiated by the board of trustees in late January. Candidates visited schools within the district and answered questions asked by residents during meet and greet sessions.

Christensen has served as an interim superintendent for the district since the sudden retirement of Donna Little-Kaumo in September. Little-Kaumo initially announced she would retire at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, but decided to retire shortly after the school year started.

Little-Kaumo had worked with the district for 14 years when she retired.
