Wolves lose in Powell, season ends Fri.

The Powell Panthers closed the door on any opportunity the Green River Wolves had at securing a playoff game this year.

The football teams clashed Friday night in Powell, ending with a victory for the Panthers, 26-14. Green River struggled with pushing the ball into the endzone, scoring two touchdowns despite four opportunities. This season, Green River has been unable to score more than 14 points a game.

Green River's woes started early in the first quarter, where a fumble two plays into the game resulted in the Panthers gaining possession. The Panthers scored their first touchdown after a 67-yard drive and succeeded in its P.A.T attempt.

The Wolves wouldn't be scoreless for long, as they scored a touchdown on their third possession with a handoff from quarterback Jachob Fuss to Gabe Burdette, who ran it into the endzone for 6. After a successful P.A.T., the two teams were tied at 7.

Powell scored a second touchdown, this time off a pass interception allowing the Panthers to take the lead, 14-7 lead. After another unsuccessful possession by Green River, the Panthers extended their lead 20-7, failing in the P.A.T., attempt. Before the end of the half, the Wolves had another chance to score, but couldn't capitalize at the goal line and turned the ball over on downs. The half ended in a 13-point lead for the Panthers.

The Panthers regained possession of the ball at the start of the second half and slowed the momentum of the game down to milk nearly half the time in the third quarter before turning the ball over. Green River, changing quarterbacks to Davis Wrage, found success in their first possession of the half, capping it with a handoff from Wrage to Burdette for another touchdown. With the P.A.T. good, Green River turned the contest into a one-touchdown game.

The Panthers didn't take long to answer back however, scoring their final touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers extended their lead to 26 points after Payton Tucker blocked the P.A.T., attempt.

The Wolves couldn't close the gap between the two teams and the game ended, 26-14. The team was three for 12 in third-down conversions.

Overall, the Wolves posted 252 total offensive yards, 138 by passing and 114 rushing.

Green River's final game of the season takes place Friday at home as the Cody Broncs come to Wolves Stadium. Action starts at 7 p.m.
