Swimmers take 3rd in Gillette before Regionals

The Lady Wolves swimming and diving team came home in third place out of 17 teams.

Last Friday and Saturday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Gillette for one of the biggest competitions they’ve been in all season long and to see where they stacked up against the other teams.

“Gillette’s always nice because it’s got a lot of people from all over the state,” head coach Colleen Seiloff said.

This was the last meet in the regular season and Seiloff was hoping to pick up a few more state qualifiers, but the team is still at 12. Even though a couple of Lady Wolves were close, they didn’t make it. They will have two more opportunities to qualify for state: at conferences this weekend and at a last chance meet, which is scheduled to take place Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. in Green River.

“We’re still just going to keep working hard,” Seiloff said.

The Lady Wolves are working on their techniques to try and improve their times.

This week, a couple of swimmers stood out to Seiloff. Both Mya Wiekhorst and Grace Schulze had really good time drops during their swims in Gillette, she said.

While at the meet, the team had a chance to see which teams are going to bring the biggest competition at State this year.

“We know that Laramie is strong,” Seiloff said. “They really showed that this weekend.”

Cheyenne Central and Gillette also have good teams this year.

“We’re going to have to go hard if we want to get into that top 3 and being home a trophy from State,” Seiloff said.

With Gillette behind them, the team will focus on conferences, which will take place Friday and Saturday in Laramie.
