Swimmers take 1st in Rock Springs pool

The Lady Wolves Swim and Dive team didn't have to travel far to take first place this weekend.

Saturday the Lady Wolves competed in Rock Springs and came in first out of four teams.

Even though the team didn't have any new state qualifiers, they did have some team members qualify in other more events, head coach Colleen Seiloff said.

There are a few swimmers on the team who are extremely close to qualifying for state, she said.

With only one regular meet left in the season and then conferences, time's running out. Seiloff said she would still like to have 15 qualified for state, but they are at 12.

"We're going to keep working towards it," Seiloff said.

One highlight of the weekend was when the 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Lauren Jensen, Hailey Uhrig, Madi Young and Sydni Sanders, broke the Rock Springs pool record with a time of 1:54.46.

Due to other obligations and illness, not as many Green River swimmers competed this weekend. Seiloff said they usually take 30 swimmers and on Saturday they had 20.

The team will continue to work hard on land and in the pool to prepare for the Gillette Invitation, which will take place Friday and Saturday in Gillette.

Seiloff said they like going to Gillette because of how tough the competition is going to be.

Almost every, tough competitor in the state attends this meet.

"We'll have a pretty good idea of what State's going to look like," she said.

It also gives the team an insight on who is going to be the biggest competitors at State and in which events.

At this point in the season, the team is really focusing on fine tuning their stroke technique and making better turns and any other little adjustment that might give them the edge.
