Cross country team improves times in Rock Springs

Green River High School’s cross country runners are preparing for Regionals at Natrona County High School in Casper.

During the past two weeks of competition, both Greg Sherwin and Madison Yoak placed high in competition, with the two earning top 10 finishes in Rock Springs Friday and top five finishes in Evanston Oct. 4.

Many of the boys runners have also cut time in the last two weeks, with Sherwin, Hale Iwen, Ezekiel Reading, Shea O’Melia, Troy Owens and Kaden Gailey having faster times in Rock Springs. O’Melia cut 1 minute, 34 seconds from his Evanston time, while Gailey dropped almost 2 minutes from his time.

Both Yoak and Tayana Eychner also posted faster times in Rock Springs, with Yoak cutting half a minute from her Evanston time and Eychner dropping 45 seconds from her time.

After their meet in Casper, the harriers will make their final appearance of the season at State, which takes place in Star Valley Oct. 26. The team will be familiar with the course as they competed in Star Valley at an invite earlier this season.
