GR Council approves transfer station

Work on the Green River Transfer Station will start soon.

The Green River City Council approved a bid for mechanical and electrical work at the transfer station Tuesday night. The bid was awarded to Electrical Connection, Inc., for $224,427.03. According to the city’s finance director, Chris Meats, the station should be operational after the work is completed, though a roof replacement project for the station is still needed and won’t take place until next spring. Meats said the city’s goal is for the mechanical and electrical work is for it to be finished before winter.

“We’re trying to get the work done before the snow flies,” he said.

Meats said the transfer station’s roof wasn’t badly damaged during the September fire, but needs to be replaced for insurance and warrantee purposes. He said roofing companies throughout the region were unable to take on the project due to how busy they are, resulting in the delay.

The Overland Stage Stampede Rodeo attracted more than 1,500 fans to Green River’s rodeo arena in June. Representatives of the rodeo committee spoke about the rodeo, saying it generated more than $8,000 in ticket sales and attracted 206 competitors during its two-night run. According to committee member Kelly Harmon, the committee is experimenting with selling tickets online and look to bring back events that occurred at previous rodeos. He also said the committee painted the announcers’ stand and look to clean up the crows nest.

The Council also approved a contract extension for the Skywest Airlines revenue guarantee. According to Devon Brubaker, director of the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport, the extension only extends the time period of the agreement and does not cost the county or two cities anything additional. The service agreement will be extended until a new agreement is implemented in October. Brubaker said he plans to return to the Council in two weeks to discuss aspects of the new agreement.
