Knights drop double header to Cody

The final home games for the Green River Knights didn't go the way they would have wanted. A double header against the Cody Cubs Sunday ended with the Knights being swept and the Cubs winning 15-4 and 16-4.

"We did not execute," head coach Benjamin Lail said. "We laid an egg."

Lail said the team struggled to hit the ball, but was happy with pitching from senior captains Ramsay Taliaferro and Joe Schultz.

For those two, it would be their last time playing at Stratton Myers Park as Knights, which Lail said made the games much more emotional for them.

"It makes me wish I could have been with them for the last four years," Lail said. "Those seniors helped turn the program around."

Their losses Sunday have galvanized the team into working harder during practice. Lail said a loss like that can have a positive impact on the team's work ethic and believes the team is much more grounded and focused than they were prior to Sunday.

The team will spend the remainder of the season traveling for their final games. They're scheduled to visit Hayden Park, Colo., for a double header Sunday.

They will travel to Riverton for double header action July 18 and will have another shot at the Cubs July 25 when they visit Cody.

Lail said the team is looking forward to their upcoming games, as well as the state tournament.

"We'll be ready when we need to be," Lail said.
