Two Lady Wolves soccer players were named All-Conference after the coaches’ votes were cast.
Raena Finch and Michaelee Wisniewski were both placed on the 2019 Wyoming Coaches’ Association 4A All-Conference list.
Head coach Tracy Wyant said it was great both of these ladies were added to this list. Only the top eight in each category including, goal keeper, defender, midfielder and forwards, receive this honor. All Conference is determined after all of the coaches vote for who they think the best players are. Coaches cannot vote for their own players.
Finch received the honor for her forward duties, while Wisniewski was recognized for her defending.
“I’m glad we got these two in,” Wyant said. “Raena has put in the work.”
Wyant said Finch wanted to play the position of striker and stayed after practices to work on her skills to obtain that goal. This drive led to Finch scoring 12 goals this season and assisting in three other goals scored.
The extra time Finch spent after practice paid off, Wyant said. Finch is a hard worker, has a great attitude and wants to get things done.
Wyant wasn’t surprised to see Wisniewski’s name on the list either.
“She’s one of those defenders that you never want to take out of the game,” Wyant said. “She knows when to clear it and when to possess it.”
Wyant said Wisniewski is just an all around great player. Wyant said she could easily make goals for the team because she has a powerful and accurate kick, but she knows how to shut plays down and take the ball away, which is why she’s a defender.
“She’s stopped several attacks on goal for us,” Wyant said.
Even though she was happy Wisniewski and Finch made the list, she was disappointed that a couple of other Lady Wolves didn’t make it.
“I’m actually disappointed and shocked we didn’t get any midfielders in,” Wyant said.
She felt a couple of Lady Wolves should have been named to the mid fielder category.
