Slaton earns GR recognition

One city resident’s work at clearing snow and ice along a portion of Flaming Gorge Way was recently recognized by the Green River City Council.

Throughout the winter and early spring months, Aaron Slaton of Daily Knead Bakery would spend mornings chipping away at ice and snow that developed along the sidewalks near the bakery, clearing a walking path along the sidewalk.

“My goal is to make to (Gordon) Gunter’s garage,” Slaton said.

Slaton would work on breaking ice for the entire block. He said the most difficult aspect was the snowy ice found near building gutters.

Someone in Green River appreciated Slaton’s public service enough to speak to the city about him. Prior to last week’s Council meeting, Slaton was contacted by a representative of the city, informing him that someone recommended him for public recognition by the Council. The recommendation was made anonymously.

“I have my suspicions on who it was, but it could have been a lot of people,” Slaton said. “I was excited.”

At the meeting, Slaton was given a certificate of appreciation.

Mayor Pete Rust said acts like this help install a sense of pride in the community and encouraged residents to follow Slaton’s example.
