Fundraisers to help GR teens set

Three teenagers’ families are hosting a fundraiser to help raise money for a trip and a service dog.

Jaron Shereda and Timmy Golightly are trying to raise money for a trip to New York City to attend the Open Jar Acting Institute. While on this trip, both Green River High School students will have the opportunity to attend five days of high-intensity workshops in acting, singing, dance and audition techniques. All of these workshops will be taught by Broadway professionals.

They will also have the opportunity to attend a few Broadway shows. Not only will they see musicals and plays, but what goes on behind the scenes.

Shereda and Golightly are trying to raise funds to pay for their tuition, lodging and other travel expenses associated with this trip. They anticipate the trip to cost about $5,000 each.

Mya Tollefson is also trying to raise money, but for a service dog. Tollefson was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and this service animal will alert Tollefson when her blood sugar levels are outside normal range. This dog will also provide emotional support and comfort to Tollefson.

On May 10, from 6-8 p.m., the families of these teens are going to host a dinner and a show fundraiser at the Golden Hour Senior Center.

The dinner will include chili, baked potatoes, salad, drinks and desserts.

As for the show, members of the GRHS theater department will perform, including Shereda and Golightly.

Residents who attend will also have the opportunity to bid on baskets and other items in the silent auction or purchase 50/50 raffle tickets. Door prizes will be offered throughout the event, but one must be present to win. Tickets for this event are $15 in advance and can be purchased at Acute Styles Salon at 520 Wilkes Drive or at the door for $20. Children eight and under are free.
