Lady Wolves swim team takes 1st

The Lady Wolves swim team showed how the home-pool advantage can pay off by taking first this weekend against 10 other teams.

The Green River High School Lady Wolves didn't have to travel this weekend and it really was a benefit for them to sleep in their own beds and have family and friends at the meet to support them, head coach Colleen Seiloff said.

"They won both Friday and Saturday," she said. "They swam really well. I was pretty excited about it."

One swimmer, freshman Hailey Uhrig broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. The team also picked up another state qualifier: Lauren Lee, taking the team to nine state qualifiers. Seiloff said some of those who previously qualified for state also qualified in other events.

"We've got some more that are getting closer," she said.

Seiloff said the Lady Wolves are going to continue to work hard and focus on what they need to accomplish at each meet. This weekend they will travel to Laramie and Cheyenne. Almost all of the 4A division teams are expected to attend the Cheyenne South invitational and the Lady Wolves are ready.

"It will give us a chance to see where we're at," Seiloff said. "I think we've got a great work ethic and the girls are working hard."

One area Seiloff noticed and was impressed with was how quickly the team is coming together and supporting one another. She said they were cheering each other on and encouraging one another.

"Before we can do something as a team, we have to become a team," Seiloff said.
