Children attend weekend events

This weekend, children had the opportunity to see artists at work through the live sculpture and painting competition.

While artists from all over gathered in the Expedition Island pavilion for the 24-hour clay sculpture and painting competitions called Art on the Green, Green River residents, their children and visitors from out of town walked through looking at the artists' work.

The event is special because is allows adults and children the chance to speak with artists while they are working on their art pieces. A wide range of artists were at the Art on the Green event, including amateur, semi professional and professional.

When children weren't busy asking artists question, they were judging artists during the Battle on the Green competition. During this competition, competitors picked a word out of a hat and then they painted something in 30 minutes based on the word. The first group of competitors selected the word "city" and were busily working as Art on the Green volunteers encouraged passersby to stop and watch the artists work.

They then encouraged the artists to pick their favorite painting by placing a token in the box next to the artist whose painting they liked the most.

Each artist had their own unique take on what a city looks like. Most had sky scrapers towering over roads with a sunset in the background.

It was hard for adults to decide which painting they liked the most, but some of the kids looked at them and quickly decided.

Other kids took in some of the River Festival activities and posed with pictures with U.S. Senator John Barrasso or waited patiently in line for shrimp or spaghetti, while members of the Green River cheerleaders helped out by putting shrimp into buckets.
