City approves parks projects

Improvements to the Green River Recreation Center and the Greenbelt were approved by the Green River City Council Tuesday night.

The council approved a bid award to R&D Sweeping and Asphalt Maintenance in Rock Springs for $58,975.

The project will focus on crack seal, gap repairs and seal coating to extend the life of the paved sections of the Greenbelt.

According to Brad Raney, director of the Parks and Recreation Department for the city, the project cost is about one-tenth the cost of completely repaving the sections.

Councilman Gary Killpack said the portion near Stratton Myers Park that has already received the crack seal treatment is much smoother to ride his bike on than it was previously.

Mayor Pete Rust said he supports the project, saying the Greenbelt was a highly utilized resource in Green River.

Money for the project was previously budgeted by the department. The other bidder was TopJob LLC., of Logan, Utah, which bid $58,935.

The bid was awarded to the higher bidder from Rock Springs due to the bid being within 5 percent of the lowest bidder from outside Wyoming.

The council also approved a flooring replacement project for the recreation center, which will cost $40,014.

Raney said the carpeted area in the lobby has reached the end of its lifespan, resulting in the need for a replacement. The work is scheduled to take place during the center’s shutdown in August and will replace the carpet with a combination of luxury vinyl planks and carpet tile.

The bid was awarded to Continental Flooring of Scottsdale, Ariz. The other bidder for the project, JC Jacobs Carpet One in Rock Springs, bid $46,226.40 on the project.
