Much learned at dance camp

Even those looked up to by children need improvement and that's exactly what the Green River Wolf Pack Dance Team did.

Last week, the dance team attended the EPIC Dance and Drill camp in Park City, Utah.

Those attending the dance camp were Sheridan Sherwin, Hailey Finstad, Bailee Roberts, Katherine Skinner, Morgan Whiting, Aundra Drinkle, Angelina Gilbert, Megan Cleary, Kinley Cochrane, Emmalee Skinner, Sydney Ferrer, Rayne Welch, Jocelyn Johnson, Ellisa Morris, Taylor Melhorn, Kayleigh Schuh, Kaelea Gibson and Ashlyn Santhuff.

Debi Kovick, Wolf Pack Dance Team coach, said the camp provides three days of expert dance training with some of the best and most current choreography, one-on-one interaction with staff and team building activities. She said these are important to starting of the team's season off on the right foot.

"We learned a total of six routines at this year's camp that we will be able to perform at our home football and basketball games this season," she said.

"We also participated in drill down which builds discipline and sharpness in our routines and performances. We took technique classes in turns and leaps that strengthen and developed our skills."

This isn't the first time this team has attend this camp. Kovick said this is the 10th year.

"It's become a tradition for our team to attend this camp," Kovick said. "This is the my third summer taking the dance team to EPIC Dance and Drill. I can't imagine going anywhere else. The teams we meet and staff we interact with become like family."

There were about 350 dancers from Utah, Wyoming and Idaho at this year's camp and the Wolf Pack was happy to bring home some awards and recognitions, including the most improved team award.

Three of the dancers earned prestigious awards while at camp, Kovick said. Katherine Skinner, a senior, earned the most valuable performer award. Emmalee Skinner earned the hardest worker award, and Kayleigh Schuh a freshman, earned most improved dancer on the team.

Emmalee also made it to the finals of the drill down competition.  Katherine, Hailey Finstad, Sheridan Sherwin, and Emmalee participated in the Top Corp contest. Top Corp is a showcase of the very best dancers at camp. Katherine made it into the top 35 dancers.

"We leave camp every year motivated and ready to begin our season," Kovick said.
