Kids burn energy indoors

During Kids in Motion, the biggest task a child may have is trying to decide what to do first.

With toys, blocks, balls, wedge mats, a trampoline, tumble track balance beam and more, it's tough for a child up to 5 to decide.

If that wasn't enough for them to pick from there are also various instruments they can play, a tube to crawl through or a basketball hoop to throw balls through.

This is what the Kids in Motion program is like.

On Monday, more than 10 kids were at the Kids in Motion program provided by the city. The program takes place three times a week at the Expedition Island Pavilion.

Jennifer Rocha, Green River Recreation Center employee said, the program helps children interact and socialize with each other. She said it's a great place for children to be in the cold winter months because it's a place for them to run around and burn some energy.

"I just think it's a really good program," she said.

Rocha enjoys watching the kids as they interact with each other and come up with games. She said since the program is three times a week, the children aren't always there on the same day.

Rocha said she could recall how one child's face lit up when they recognized another child. She enjoys how little kids make new friends and remember old ones.

Usually, Rocha will supervise five to 10 children as they play, but on Monday there were a lot more children.

"Today was a really good day," Rocha said.

Those who would like to take their children or grandchildren to the Kids in Motion can do so Mondays from 11 a.m. until noon, Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. and Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There is a fee to play and punch cards are available.

Rocha said as the weather is starting to warm up the program will wind down. May 24 is the last day for Kids in Motion, but the program will start back up Sept. 5 in the fall.
