Green River drama students received All-state honors, multiple honorable mentions and some were offered scholarships at the State Drama competition in CAsper.
On Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 35 Green River High School theater students attended Wyoming State Drama Competition at the Casper College Campus.
“This year, we simply allowed students to sign up for categories they were interested in,” theater director Bradlee Skinner said.
“Next year, we hope to continue building the program to a point where students will have to audition for the categories they want to compete in as each event allows for only four students from each school per category,” Skinner said.
During the competition, students can participate in one-act plays, monologues, duets, group performances and technical events including makeup, scenic design, costume construction and others.
Each category is judged by different group of judges. Some of those judges are directors of colleges and universities from Wyoming and neighboring states, while others are professional directors, actors and technicians as well as college students.
Skinner said the feedback the students receive from the judges is valuable.
“The notes they provided were very helpful in improving students skills and style,” he said.
Skinner said this competition was an amazing opportunity for the students who decided to go. During their time in Casper, they were either performing, attending workshops, watching other students compete, networking with students from other schools or visiting with representatives from colleges and universities.
“I am so proud of these students and the work the previous director, Terrin Musbach, did to help them build their skills truly showed at this year’s event,” Skinner said.
“I consider myself very fortunate to work the talented young students of GRHS and we look forward to improving our performances at next year’s event,” she said.
