Burglary investigations continue

2 more GR businesses hit

The Green River Police Department is investigating several burglaries occurring within the city during the past several weeks.

Burglaries recently occurred at Castle Rock Veterinary Center and Club 86, both of which were reported Oct. 25.

The Green River Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion, The Hitching Post and the Embassy Tavern have all been burglarized during the past few months.

Similar burglaries have been reported in Kemmerer, Evanston and Laramie, as well as other locations across the state and have targeted fraternal organizations and bars.

A warning issued to the Green River Chamber of Commerce by the GRPD Sept. 18, requested the chamber to encourage business owners to install working burglar alarms and security cameras as a deterrent to the burglaries.

“I suspect that installing a security system video/alarm, would pay for itself the first time a burglar thought about it, but stayed out due to knowing there was a security system in place, and waiting until they get burglarized to decide they need a system, well then it’s (too) late,” Lt. Burke Morin wrote to the chamber. “Even if there is limited or no money in the business to be taken, the cost of repairing the damage caused by the burglars could be substantial.”

Morin suspects the burglaries are connected to others occurring in the region.

A more recent release from the GRPD notes the incidents are still under investigation and encourages people to contact their local law enforcement agencies if they have information regarding the burglaries.

Luke Benson, the public information officer for the GRPD, said he could not comment about other law enforcement agencies they’re working with or any recent developments with the cases.

According to the Lander Journal, the burglaries have extended into northeastern Utah, as well as southwest Wyoming. The Lander Police Department believes the same suspects are involved in all of the burglaries. A tally by the LPD suggests more than 30 businesses throughout the region have been burglarized since May. The Lander Journal also reports suspects had pried open the doors to their targets at times when the businesses were vacant. The Lander Elks Lodge was targeted twice, with its first break in reported June 26, while the second occurred Sunday night.
