Girls swim team set their sights on winning

Not only will the Lady Wolves Swimming team be setting team goals, but personal goals as well.

“Our plans are to just keep working as a team,” head coach Colleen Seiloff said.

Seiloff said the team wants to take first place at conference competition again this year, but they aren’t stopping there.

“We want a top three finish at state,” Seiloff said.

Seiloff believes both of these goals are obtainable if the Lady Wolves continue to work hard throughout the entire season.

There are a lot of great girls swimming teams throughout the state, she said.

“In general, the Eastern part of the state has some very strong teams,” Seiloff said.

Regardless of where the team goes, they love to compete. As Green River’s swimming program continues to grow, so does the girl’s team. This year, the team has a good depth of field with about the same amount of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors to pull from. Although the junior group is a little bit bigger than the other classes, it’s still pretty even.

“We have a big team this year,” Seiloff said.

What’s great is the team has a lot of swimmers who have participated in numerous competitions and they have great leadership skills. The younger girls on the team look up to those with more experience under their belt.

“They have a chance to get in there and be competitive with the other side of the state,” Seiloff said.

Not only has the team looked at this year’s goals, but future ones.

“A big goal is to try to keep a good group of girls coming in,” Seiloff said.

While the team has set it’s team goals, they are still working on setting individual goals. The girls will need to decide what they would like to accomplish during the season, at conference and at state. Seiloff said the girls will probably want to set some realistic times to achieve by the end of the season. Those who are returning to the team already know what to expect.

“We already have a lot of them that came into the season with goals,” she said.
