Notes from Town Square: Pride in Green River

The Green River Chamber is excited to announce our brand new “Shop Green River” campaign.

The idea was formed through the chamber’s Business Development and Retention committee to encourage Green River pride and entice people to shop locally.

As more people support our already existing local shops, more shopping opportunities will follow. Shopping locally helps strengthen the economic base of our community and contributes to new job creation. The average community derives 76 percent of their new jobs and capital investment from existing businesses. However, in a more rural area like Green River, 86-90 percent of new job creation comes from existing business, based on a study by Blane, Canada Ltd.

Therefore it is vital that our community support our already existing businesses so we can ensure new job growth.

We are hoping this campaign will also instill pride in our community and encourage people to want to shop locally and think about shopping Green River first. The chamber has developed multiple opportunities for business owners and community members to be able to participate in this campaign. The chamber has designed I “Heart” GR shirts, stickers, and a “Passport” card that will hopefully inspire individuals to shop locally. I “Heart” GR shirts will be sold at the Green River Chamber and we encourage all residents to wear them on Fridays. The stickers will be handed out at local businesses and special events.

The passport cards can be picked up at one of the following 10 participating businesses: Wyoming Embroidery and Sporting Goods, The Hitching Post Restaurant and Saloon, White Mountain Lumber, The Viaduct Grill, Taco Time, McDonalds, The Fish Bowl, Sweetwater County Museum, Penny’s Diner and Sweetwater Trophies and Gifts. Receive all 10 stamps by making a purchase at each business and be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to be used anywhere in Sweetwater County. The first drawing will take place June 30 so start shopping soon.

We also want to remind all of our local businesses that tourist season is just beginning and now is a great time to promote and “show off” your business and everything that is great about Green River to travelers and residents alike. If you are interested in the shirts, stickers or want to learn more about the passport program, visit our website at http://www.grchamber.com or call us at 307-875-5711.
