Helen Josephine Koritnik, 94, of Rock Springs passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.  

She was born on Nov. 28, 1922 in Rock Springs, the daughter of Valentine and Anna Marcina.  

She attended school in Riverton and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School in 1940.

She married Valentine Koritnik Nov. 8, 1953 in Rock Springs and he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1990.  

Her interests included spending time with her family, playing her musical instruments and painting.

Many in Sweetwater County were entertained with her lively polka music, and she donated many of her paintings to local charity fund raising raffles.

Survivors include one sister, Florence Cilensek of Rock Springs; children Gregory (Cissy) Koritnik and Valerie (Terry) Fieseler, both of Rock Springs; daughter-in-law Tara Koritnik of Rock Springs; grandchildren Christopher Koritnik, Lori (Eric) Carlson, and Katie Koritnik (significant other Brad Stassinos), all of Rock Springs; Jake (Ashley) Fieseler of Doswell, Va., and Troy Fieseler (significant other Sarah Varden) of Jackson; great grandchildren Precious Koritnik, Basia Koritnik, Adonis Koritnik, Seanna Latimer, Cash Carlson, Kaden Campbell, Ericka Campbell, Franko Shiflar, all of Rock Springs, and Thomas (T.J.) Whalen of Casper; along with many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Koritnik; granddaughter, Kari-Lyn Koritnik; and her sisters Virginia Alford, Alice Marcina and Clara Hill.

Cremation will take place and a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday at Saint Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs.

A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at Vase Funeral Chapel in Rock Springs.

Friends may call at Vase Funeral Chapel from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 P.M. and at the church on Friday, one hour prior to services.

The family of Helen Josephine Koritnik respectfully suggests that donations in her memory be made to Young At Heart Senior Center.
