Mary G. Kalivas

Mary G. Kalivas, 91, passed away Oct. 18, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Green River, Kalivas had been in ill health for the past year. 

She was born on July 16, 1925, in Katarraktis, Greece, the daughter of Miltiathis and Auryero Thomas Varkaris. 

Kalivas attended schools in Katarraktis, Greece. 

She married Gus Kalivas in Green River Jan. 6, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2013.

Kalivas was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church that she attended every week. She helped bake the Greek pastries for the Greek Church bake sale every year. She was also a member of the Philoptohos Society and served as president for several years. 

Her family always came first. She was an avid baker, gardener and loved to crochet. 

Survivors include two daughters, Effie Manley and husband Mark of Green River and Rula Bullock and husband Brad of Vernal, Utah; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one daughter, Patti Torres; great-grandchildren Rachel, Dalton and Cortez.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Springs. A Trisagion will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at Vase Funeral Chapel in Rock Springs. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at Vase Chapel on Friday from 4-6 p.m., and at the Vase Chapel Saturday until time of services.
