Jim and Lorraine Jolley

Jim Jolley passed away Sept. 12, 2016, a year after his wife Lorraine Jolley passed away June 15, 2015.

Jim was born in Glendale, Ariz., late in the summer of 1938 to Ellic Graves Jolley and Montie Alta Jolley.

Jim’s 10 siblings include brothers Bill, Grady, Paul David, Richard, Elvis and Howard and sisters, Patricia, Evorah, Sandra, and Sarah Elizabeth. As one of the older siblings Jim was known to his siblings as both a protector and counselor.

Jim was called into the workforce at a very young age to help his parents provide for his family. Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force as a young man and served overseas. As a young student in California, Jim met the love of his life, Lorraine.

Lorraine Gladys Southern was born in the winter of 1949 in Boston. She, like Jim, came from a large family. Lorraine was the second oldest of seven children born to Charles and Gladys Southern. Lorri helped care for her brothers, John, Robert, James, Barton, Charles, and sister Charlotte. She, with her family moved to California where she attended Cal State Hayward.

Jim and Lorri met as young adults, and a lifelong love affair ensued. They were married Feb. 1, 1969. They eventually settled in Ojai, Calif., and in 1977, welcomed their first son, Benjamin Franklin.

Jim graduated with a degree in secondary education and obtained a position in North Dakota. The family moved to Green River, in the summer of 1979, where Jim began his career with Sweetwater Count School District No. 2 as a literary and history teacher at the junior high school.

Their family grew in 1982, with the birth of Wesley David. While raising their two young sons, Lorri obtained a secondary education degree from the University of Wyoming. Lorraine and James both had long and prosperous careers in education. Jim taught middle school for most of his career, and Lorri found she enjoyed teaching high school mathematics.

Jim and Lorri called Green River home until Jim’s retirement when they moved to Rock Springs. Lorri continued teaching in Rock Springs at the Independent High school as a mathematics and science teacher.

Jim and Lorraine, known as Grandma and Grandad to their three grandchildren, Nicholas, Mikayla, and Morgann Jolley enjoyed spending time with family in their retirement.

Jim participated in multiple hobbies he enjoyed, such as playing pool, darts, and restoring furniture. Lorri enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Both treasured time spent with their grandchildren playing cards, backgammon and tending to their garden.

Lorraine preceded James in death in June of 2015, at the age of 67. James passed away 14 months later, at the age of 78.

They are survived by Ben and wife Ashley Jolley, and son Wesley Jolley.

Grandchildren Nicholas, Mikayla, and Morgann Jolley. James is survived by siblings Bill, Evorah, Sandra, Paul David, Richard, Sarah. Lorriane is survived by siblings John, James, Bart and Charlotte.

Services for Lorraine were held at Desert Memorial in Las Vegas on June 20, 2015.

Services for James will be held at Desert Memorial 1111 N. Las Vegas Blvd. at 10 a.m. Saturday.
